Samouni Road world premiere in Cannes

I feel blessed and honored for being part of this film. 

4 years and half of work and life, 

many things can happen during such a long period of time.

Then, like a dream, 

we have been selected at "50th Quinzaine des Réalisateurs" in Cannes

the french film crew met the italian film crew

whereof 28 animators, almost all of them where present.

It's been one of the strongest experiences of my life. 

Thank you Stefano and Simone, thank you to all the crew!

We hope to give a new voice to all the Samouni family.

In the rural outskirts of Gaza City a small community of farmers, the Samouni extended family, is about to celebrate a wedding. It’s going to be the first celebration since the latest war. Amal, Fuad, their brothers and cousins have lost their parents, their houses and their olive trees. The neighborhood where they live is being rebuilt. As they replant trees and plow fields, they face their most difficult task: piecing together their own memory. Through these young survivors’ recollections, Samouni Road conveys a deep, multifaceted portrait of a family before, during and after the tragic event that changed its life forever.

I passed the last couple of months in Brazil, I visited Fortaleza and I spent an incredible time with Diego Akel, a great animator and friend.
We travelled around, we drew together and then Diego helped me to organaize an exhibition and a workshop at Riso Tropical, a nice print shop managed by the lovely Rodrigo Costa Lima and Emi Teixeira.

"Pop Art interiors, psychic drifting and the myths of mass tourism seen from the Rimini Skyscraper, one of the symbolic buildings of the city. 100 metres tall, inaugurated in 1959 as an icon of a small town that was being transformed into a beachfront metropolis, the building, considered by some an eco-monster and by others as a technological paradise, today is a vertical neighbourhood, inhabited by people from about 20 different countries. Its humanity and landscape are examined in the first person by one of its residents, in an open dialogue with the skyscraper its self. An autobiographical reflection which ask questions about the very form of the contemporary documentaries."

"Gli interni pop, le derive psichiche, i miti della vacanza di massa visti dal Grattacielo di Rimini, uno degli edifici simbolo della città. Alto 100 metri, inaugurato nel 1959 quale icona di una cittadina che si stava trasformando in metropoli balneare, considerato da alcuni un ecomostro e da altri un paradiso tecnologico, oggi è un quartierone verticale abitato da una ventina di nazionalità differenti. La sua umanità e i suoi paesaggi sono scrutati in prima persona da uno dei suoi abitanti, in dialogo aperto con il grattacielo stesso. Una riflessione autobiografica che si interroga sulle forme del documentario contemporaneo."
